Publishing industry 2020. Everything is not bad

There is an opinion that production of paper books becomes less profitable: there is an absence of demand (people stopped reading spending free time in front of TV) and developing of digital technologies (young people use digital devices more for reading texts); pandemic CoVid-19 also influenced it. But everything is not bad. We can tell: the investigations were done in Germany but with some part of expectation data will be actual and for our country.

Exchange union of book trade in Germany divides publishing on thematic specialization into three groups: specialized, mass and educational.
According to annual sales publishing companies are divided into three classes: big (with annual sales more 10 mln.euro); medium (with annual sales from 1 to 10 mln.euro) and small with annual sales less than 1 mln.euro.
Investigations of  HWTK mainly was connected with small publishing companies.  
“Our work shows what risks and possibilities can be in publishing business. We can see that there are possibilities but many publishing houses have to adapt and to change their strategy”, professor Friedrich Figge head of investigations said.  
The investigation was done with questionnaire method in spring 2020 before the beginning of pandemic CoVid-19. It was got 89 answers on  1700 questionnaires ( it means 5,2% agreed to speak to this topic it allows to estimate about reliability of data). 61 questionnaires are approved for analyze, 36 questionnaires were used for getting of general cluster characteristics.
According to data got from the investigations the quantity of small publishing companies from 2013 to 2020 decreased on 8%.
Results of the investigations shows that small publishing companies try to keep their significancy and won’t loose it in the nearest time staying noticeable part of culture fund of the country.
75% respondents to the survey do not fell the danger from side of digital technologies. The fell well themselves at the market of printed products, for them paper book is a foundation stone of publishing industry. Most of such publishing companies do not plan to use digital technologies and compete with online medi. The other 25% respondents agreed with the fact that digital technologies would help them.
Nevertheless, German researchers consider it is necessary to inform mangers of such publishing companies the real situation in the part of usage digital technologies giving working business models. It will allow to keep in the country small publishing companies as class.
